    Studies show there is a sharp correlation between the increase in disease and the measurements of waist to hip ratio.  Dividing these numbers would give you an idea of the risks you may face with your health. Knowing this should provide you with an excellent indicator of where to aim at in keeping your health.

    Our world has had steep increases in obesity with a large percentage in North America. We are one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, with luxuries that go beyond anything we could have ever imagined.  So much of our focus is computer oriented…Could this be one of the factors that are doing us in? Or is it greed? Advertising so much in the face of our young children, exposing them to things they feel they have to have? We are on the brink of realizing that something needs to be done, but we are not even close to making it to what it should be. Our unconscious ability to just let things go for the moment as our children grow up, are ruining what we tried so hard to prevent when they were babies. We are becoming a lazy nation when it comes to our children. We want technology to do it for us!

    It is important to look at obesity and strive for better health for our families. It is important to make a difference and foster, through modeling, better eating and better life practices for relieving stress and just learning to play again naturally.

    Our minds are starving for stimulation that wants to feed. We are confused though, so we seek out computer games, feed at over- zealous restaurants, or play and listen to gadgets everywhere we go. Luxury…Look what it has done! All our minds are really starving for is the purity of life!

    A good suggestion to prevent obesity and depression for our children is the chance, more often than not, to experience life alone without technologies. We will always see advances in technology and that is important, but we also need to stay with what is natural. This will keep us in check and lets us breathe and lets us be…Let’s start by understanding ourselves with not so much distraction in our wings. It seems we feel we need something, but we can’t seem to put a finger on what it is.

    We feel it is material things, but what we need to do is listen to the nudges of nature and go outside and be free. Health starts at just realizing this very point and as a result our epidemics of obesity, disease, stress and depression would just fade away.

    Things to consider:

    1. What we are eating? –Meaning the choice of groceries we buy and their true nutritional value.

    2. How we are eating? — Are we eating scheduled home cooked meals, packaged ready made foods or are we eating fast foods or at restaurants anytime?

    3.   When we are eating?  — If we are eating regular meals, when? Are we grazing through the day or we bingeing and only eating occasionally?

    3. How we are exercising? — Activity level — A Living couch potato, living regular life with light exercise, some moderate activity, or a higher impact activity like running or walking.

    *There are many factors to consider and just focusing on a few could make big changes in your health.

    The Top Diseases:

    * Heart disease

    * Diabetes

    * Stroke

    * Cancer

    Try this:

    Measure with a tape measure the smallest section of your waist.

    Measure the widest part of your hips.

    Example: Waist 32 – Hips 39

    Divide the two numbers.
